Renowned radio shock-jock Alan Jones has obliterated the lockout laws during his 2GB radio segment today, stating that Sydney’s nightlife is well and truly “dead“.

Jones, who was broadcasting from Melbourne following yesterday’s Melbourme Cup, begins the segment with praise for the Victorian city for being in-touch with it’s nightlife values and benefits; benefits that have clearly been forgotten by the NSW government.

Speaking on his hometown of Sydney, Jones says“our City – with a capital ‘C’ – is dead. Nightlife, dead. Somewhere where you can get a feed and a coffee at midnight, dead. And the tourists are waking up.”

Throughout his nearly 15-minute tirade of the lockout laws, Jones takes aim at Hon. Ian Callinan for his very ‘relaxed’ suggestions in his review, Mike Baird – of course – and he even even touches upon the memorial plaques that were erected last month that were mounted on closed Sydney venues portraying the way in which the current state of nightlife has effected the live music scene.

He then expresses that Mike Baird has the opportunity now to amend the lockout laws and make the changes.

“I’m giving Mike Baird and Troy Grant a chance to get off the hook. They said they’ll consider the Callinan report and will deliver a response before the end of the year. Well the response is simple. Melbourne tried it, and it failed. They abandoned the lockout laws.

“Mike Baird knows we’re all concerned about violence, but we’re equally as concerned about sending businesses broke and putting people out of work.”

“The city is a morgue” – Harsh, but unfortunately true.
