Vinyl album sales set to skyrocket into the millions this year!

Vinyl’s resurgence has been rising for quite some time now, and people thought it might stagnate soon, but at least in the UK that doesn’t seem to be true. UK vinyl album sales are still increasing and are set to push past the three million mark before the year finishes up.

BPI (British Recorded Music Industry) has revealed the number of units sold could beat any sales record for the first time in twenty years. This could partly be due to the fact that streaming services are making people want to buy physical records.

Gennaro Castaldo, Director of Communications at BPI, said: “Sales of vinyl have risen dramatically since their low point in 2007, with over two million LPs purchased last year for the first time in more than two decades.

“With no let-up in sight, the BPI has every expectation this trend will continue, and estimates that up to 3.5 million LPs or more could be purchased during the course of 2016”.

Sales in the U.S. are also peaking, and in Australia there isn’t much revealed yet, but the fact that a new vinyl plant is being opened in Australia is a testament that vinyl isn’t heading back underground anytime soon.
