Wide awake with Visionist’s ‘Tired Tears, Awake Fears’, insomniac album on the way

After a brief hiatus from new production to focus on touring, Visionist has returned to the studio to put out his most self-exploratory work yet.

Although I’m usually familiar with Visionist’s for his beautifully ethereal take on grime – I was introduced to him through a FACT mix (download it here) before discovering his 2013 I’m Fine EP – his new track has taken me by surprise. Leaving his signature bass-surges at the studio door, the experimental producer builds on sounds from his most recent ‘Cant Forget’ single and applies a liberal layer of emotional dynamite.

What materialises is ‘Tired Tears, Awake Fears’, a piece that is swollen with vocal cuts and anxiously modulating synth. Anxiety attacks from the first squeezing hook, the track is a slow burning feast on mental stability, crescendoing to a position precariously fixed above panic.

Explaining the viciously emotional track, Visionist broke our hearts a little more with  this statement provided to Fader:

“It’s night once again, a time of rest, a time of forget.
I miss those times.
Mind running wild, images repeat then change constant spiral.
Why can’t I just shut off?
‘It’s not that bad, stop being stupid’
3 hours later still have’t slept, turn on radio try to let their words override my thoughts.
Tired tears, Awake Fears…
Still awake, time to get in shower reset
back into bed close eyes start again, try to picture just black…………
Awake thankful for the luxury of sleep.”

‘Tired Tears, Awake Fears’ joins ‘Victim’ as the released tracks from forthcoming album Safe, set for release on October 19th through Germany’s PAN.
