Bonobo – Pelican [Ninja Tune]

Simon Green, aka Bonobo, is set to release his Flashlights EP on the 1st of December, and he’s given us another tantalising taste of the Ninja Tune release via Soundcloud.

Bonobo has been around the traps for a long time, his beautiful orchestral fuelled cut ‘Nightlife’ appeared on the 2006/2007 Champions League game soundtrack. Since then, the Ninja Tune don has continued to create a catalogue of deeply atmospheric and emotive tracks that resonate immensely, most notably from his 2013 album ‘The North Borders’.

Despite building a reputation through the production of tunes more suited as the soundtrack to your vivid dreams and every day environments, it seems that this upcoming EP will see the Brighton-born producer venture darker into the club realms. ‘Pelican’, an automatic winner due to the title, is a track that will get heart rates up and provoke the sort of shape pulling that isn’t synonymous with his work.

The swooning vibe remains, however, it’s the pace and tenacity of the track that grabs the attention. The energy summoned by the repetitive withdrawn vocals and space-like atmosphere combined with his signature intricate percussion work that renders it as something you can feasibly lose yourself to, be it on the roads or as the sun rises on another day.

‘Pelican’ is the second track to be uploaded in anticipation of the intriguing release, hopefully it’s more of the same to come.
