Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Parties have gathered a decent amount of traction over its brief history, five years to be exact. In that time it’s moved from a handful of stops to a full blown 13-stop national tour that from this year’s re-cap video, looks completely insane.
The formula is a testament to Diplo’s keen business sense and ability to market a brand above even the signed artists to the label or performers on the day. Do we know who’s playing next year? Nope, but we certainly will be attending. The fact that the video makes it look like the most high-energy and kickass day proves you don’t need big names or festival bangers to keep a crowd moving, something Diplo and the Mad Decent gang explain in detail.
This years re-cap video is a full 13-minutes of euphoria, beats and well, partying. If you’ve never shaken your butt before be prepared to boogie to the ridiculous soundtrack that features Riff Raff, Dillon Francis, Grandtheft, Flosstradamus, Diplo and London Future. The San Deigo stop also saw Diplo and Skrillex’s collaboration Jack U’s debut with a DJ set that got us moving.
The label had a close call this year with it surfacing that Baauers internet hit “Harlem Shake” definitely played a role in keeping the label out of bankruptcy, oh and those 33 students that were expelled for ‘expressing themselves’ – We’re still scratching our heads over how Pauly D is earning as much as Diplo, but whatever.
Diplo’s band Major Lazer will be playing at next years Big Day Out alongside buddies Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus and Steve Angello.
