John Heckle – Desolate Figures [Tabernacle Records]

Two years after his last full-length titled ‘Second Son’, which was out on Jamal Moss‘s Mathematics label, John Heckle has returned with ‘Desolate Figures’ for Tabernacle Records.

According to the album’s press release, the album further explores Heckle’s signature sound — a hardware-focused mix of jacking Chicago house, electro and raw techno — with the rattling, on-the-fly nature of his live shows influencing the tone of the record. Accordingly, ‘Desolate Figures’ succeeds at presenting the producer in his no-nonsense mode; “all guns blazing” as he says. Indeed, the long-awaited follow up to his 2011 success doesn’t really venture into new territory, but being a descendant of Chicago renegade Hieroglyphic Being, who was instrumental in bringing the producer to wider attention through signing his debut EP back in 2010, the record properly represents Heckle firmly in-stride. Have a listen below.
