Hydraulix: “Education and harm minimisation could be the closest we will have to a solution”

Hydraulix has become one of the most exciting names in bass-heavy Australian electronic music. His trap stylings leave dance-floors heaving and bodies sweating, and this week, he’s setting off on tour with Oski for legendary dance music institution Ministry of Sound. The tour kicks off TONIGHT at The Met in Brisbane, and we had a little chat with the Sydney producer before he jets off.

You’re playing the Ministry of Sound tour! What are you most excited about – got any tricks up your sleeves that we should keep an eye out for?

I’d have to say gettin’ to do shows with Oski is probably one of my highlights.. We’ve done a few shows in the past together and they always get crazy so this should be something special!

We noticed you’ve got some new t-shirts out! Who designed them? Have you got a crown in real life?

Yeah, I’m actually really excited about the tees… I was lucky enough to get linked with K Tees Customs which is a Brisbane based company, they came up with some dope stuff. Defs worth a check out!

tshirtThe trap scene is growing bigger every day. Who are your three top Australian producers killing it right now?

Top 3 Aussie producers for me would have to be Hatch, Oski and PhaseOne.. These boys actually blow my mind with some of their stuff…

Summer as well and truly on the way here in Sydney. What are your favourite clubs and venues for those balmy summer vibes?

As far as Sydney is concerned Chinese Laundry and World Bar are my homes away from home. Sunshine or rain, these clubs show me why they are some of the best in Australia week after week.

You recently played Defqon 1, after which we heard the devastating news that one man passed away and more were hospitalised. In your opinion, how could we try to avoid these kinds of tragedies at future events?

It’s so upsetting to hear that these sorts of things are still happening. I feel that the drug culture is and always has been associated with not only with dance music, but all music in general. I don’t know if it’s as simple as sitting police dogs out the front. Something I saw at Future Music Festival, which I thought was interesting was that they had a drug testing station so people can go up and find out exactly what their ecstasy had in it. A lot of people obviously weren’t down with it. But I feel education and harm minimisation could be the closest we will have to a solution.

You can catch Hydraulix TONIGHT at The Met in Brisbane – keep an eye on The Met’s Facebook page for more event details.
