LISTEN: Disclosure and Sam Smith give Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ a smooth makeover

Brotherly duo Disclosure have teamed up with pop artist Sam Smith for a damn sweet cover of Drake’s single ‘Hotline Bling.’ Having visited BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, Guy & Lawrence Howard had a chat with Clara Amfo about their forthcoming album “Caracal”, and performed one original song and one cover (it’s essentially BBC’s take on triple j’s Like A Version.) The pair brought Smith along for their collaborative track ‘Omen’, before launching right into the spectacular Drizzy cover. The track has been given a distinctly Disclosure makeover, with bouncy house beats, spritely synths, and that all-night dancefloor vibe that we’ve come to know and love.

Say what you will about Sam Smith, but his vanilla-sweet vocals slip perfectly into Disclosure’s production. Check out the velvety smooth cover here – skip ahead to 2:15 for ‘Omen’, and 8:55 for ‘Hotline Bling’.

Disclosure will be releasing ‘Caracal‘, the long-awaited follow up to 2013’s ridiculous debut ‘Settle’, on September 25. Alongside the Sam Smith collab, we can look forward to other featured guests including Lorde, Kwabs, The Weeknd, Miguel and more. Meanwhile, Sam Smith has been confirmed as the artist behind the as-yet-unreleased theme song for the new James Bond theme. He will also be touring Australia later this year.

Drake last visited Australia for the final ever Future Music Festival earlier this year. Disclosure, no stranger to our shores, last visited Australia for Stereosonic 2014, and will be here over the New Years period for Falls Festival.
