Perth Flips The Rule Book, Extends Sunday Pub, Bar and Club Trading Hours

Perth has extended late night trading hours which will see doors open longer at pubs, bars and clubs in the Western Australian city.

According to WAtoday the popular ‘Sunday Session’ can now run until midnight, an increase from 10pm whilst nightclubs can trade all the way to 2am Monday morning.

Colin Holt, the WA Racing and Gaming Minister said the changes were to reflect Perth’s changing seven-day economy which introduces added flexibility for when locals and tourists can enjoy the nightlife.

Along with the trading hour changes were harsher penalties for individuals who supply juveniles without parent consult with the fine now a hefty $10,000.

The amendments come as Sydney and Brisbane battle harsher lockout laws resulting in limited trading hours for pubs, bars and clubs that have resulted in a stunted nightlife economy.

While these changes have led to a 20% reduction in alcohol related violence in Sydney some entertainment areas have seen a drop of 80% foot traffic with violence reportedly spreading to surrounding suburbs.

Those wanting to be heard should attend Reclaim The Streets December 12th at Camperdown Memorial Park with the last protest seeing over 1000 people in attendance.

We were there to catch the action, watch the report below.
