Much like the vinyl revival, it seems cassettes are next in line for the nostalgia hit with sales booming in 2017.
The retro music streaming service (lol) skyrocketed in popularity over the past 12-months with The Hollywood Reporter finding a 35% increase in sales. On top of this, Nielsen Music reported over 174,000 cassettes sold in 2017, which is 45,000 more than the previous year.
Why are cassettes cool again, you ask? It seems the biggest pull to cassette tapes in 2017 was movie and television soundtracks, with the most popular sales going to Stranger Things and Guardians Of The Galaxy, while Kanye’s Yeezus, Prince’s Purple Rain and Nirvana’s Nevermind was up the top as well.
