One of our favourite local venues to frequent for live shows and DJ sets is going up for sale, for a whopping $5 million. Well, to avoid confusion this is not the actual Oxford Art Factory business going up for sale, just this piece of property that the venue has inhabited for a while.
The venue has held performances from pretty much everyone at some stage, including more recently The Kite String Tangle, UV Boi, and Touch Sensitive, with artists such as Slum Sociable, UK’s Actress and Canada’s Jacques Green lined up to perform over the next few months.
The popular venue has been occupying it’s Darlinghurst location for 10 years, holding up to 500 guests, with “about 5000” people entering the venue on a weekly basis. Without a shadow of a doubt, OAF has become the Sydney go-to for local electronic and hip-hop shows for a long time as it has the perfect size and setup for these types of events.
The property is scheduled for auction on November 28. Owner Mark Gerber says that “The business is not for sale, (Oxford Art Factory) is business as usual”, so we’re definitely not losing this part of Sydney’s nightlife.
