King Street is on the verge of becoming one giant live music venue!

With the lockout laws coming into effect 4 years ago, we’ve seen a lot of live music venues come and go. It’s sad to see it happen and watch our arts and music culture start to struggle in Sydney.

However, amazing news has swung our way! Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne released a statement that his council have voted to “investigate legalising arts & music in all cafes, restaurants, retail shops and main street premises on King Street in Newtown”.

Byrne has also stated that he will be asking Clover Moore and the City of Sydney (who control the Eastern side of Sydney) to jump on board the plan and bring back the arts & music culture back together.

“By allowing businesses there to host small scale live music, theatre and exhibitions without the need for a development application we can breathe new life into the arts sector in our city… King Street first, next the whole of the Inner West”.

Big, big news. You go Darcy! Hopefully this means we can all still get kebabs in the early hours. See his full post below.
