Man dies after jumping into the Burning Man fire

Tragedy has struck the annual festival Burning Man over the weekend, with an attendee jumping into the fire, receiving fatal burns.

The 41-year-old man broke through the security barriers on Saturday night at roughly 10:30pm, before leaping into the 50-foot, flaming sculpture. He was dragged out by firefighters, however he succumbed to his burns later on.

In a statement from the festival organisers, they said: “We’re aware this incident has affected not only those who responded immediately on the scene, but also those who witnessed it, and our Black Rock City community more broadly.”

“We are working to make resources available to those affected… Now is a time for closeness, contact and community. Trauma needs processing. Promote calls, hugs, self-care, check-ins, and sleep.”
