Moderat are taking a break from making music

Words by Patrick Marshal

The Moderat boys are throwing in the towel for the foreseeable future after the finish of their third studio release tour to pursue their individual projects.

In an interview with LOLA, Sacha says “The music world runs in phases. An album is a certain phase, and this one is coming to an end. That means it will be the last chance to see us for a while.” Gernot also commented “We’re all clear about a hiatus for the time being. It doesn’t have a set time-frame; we don’t know yet if we will continue with Moderat, and we also can’t say ‘if’. So this Berlin concert will be like the end of an era!”

Sacha describes it as a difficult period to transition from being in a group to working solo and kicking off music as an individual again with the statement “Moderat was planned as a recovery project from our individual ones.”

In a performance on the Youtube channel KEXP, member Sacha described the process as “See this is exactly what happens in the studio, we are three people with very different opinions, basically, everything is usually to be discussed a lot”, Garnot chiming in with “Thats not right.” A quick breath before this statement Sacha adds “Still these days we tell everyone that we are a band now finally; just took twelve years, but yeah.” Obviously something on the bands minds for a good while if not before the interview on June 2016.

The trios last scheduled tour date is September 2nd in their hometown of Berlin, maybe a suiting finishing place for the group to hopefully regather in the near future.

Watch the performance below, and pray to whatever it is you might pray too that Moderat are back sooner than later!
