First it was news that Porter Robinson and Madeon were working together on a single, ‘Shelter’. Then it was news that that track would be getting a completely animated anime video clip. Then it was that the two of them would be bringing their huge ‘Shelter’ tour to Australia, and now, we’ve got a massive remix of that same song by the one and only Mat Zo.
While the original cuts completely to the chase, dropping you right into some fast paced electronica, Mat Zo’s remix builds the song much more delicately. Plucked guitar, some tribal sounding drums and just a hint of brass create some typical but excellent Mat Zo progression. From there we dropped into the now iconic chopped and screwed vocal samples, this time with a more fast paced and pulsating sounding set of synths. By far the most impressive thing about this remix, aside from the fact that it sounds so incredibly different from the original, is the way it remains consistently fresh. Oh and that guitar solo too.
It’s making us even more excited for Porter and Madeon to make their way down under in February of next year. They’ve announced that the combined shows and collaborations are only temporary, and so it could be one of the only times to ever see them go back to back.
It should be a set of pretty unreal shows, combining “the best of their individual catalogues into one interactive performance. Fans can expect live instrumentation, visual artistry and cutting edge technology, with old favourites played alongside newly re-worked cuts.” No doubt tickets will sell out fast, but they’re still available right here. Check full dates below, and bask in this Mat Zo remix till next Feb.
