DJ Tips: How To Pre-Set Your CDJ Settings

Back at it again with the DJ Tips, this time Tonez takes you through the precautionary tale of pre-setting your CDJ settings that’ll save you some precious minutes (and frustration) whenever you arrive at gigs!

That’s right, you can pre-set “Vinyl/CDJ Mode”, “Tempo Range”, “Master Tempo”, “Screen Brightness” along with 17 others pre-sets can be pre-determined at home and accessed by the press of 1 button at the start of your gig.

Be sure to check out how to Properly Test Your USBs and How To Mix With One Deck.

This quick TonezTip will take you through the steps to get it setup to save you time at the start of your set.

1 – Open #Rekordbox, Click on the “Preferences” button in the top right (Cog symbol) beside your clock in Rekordbox. Alternatively click “Rekordbox > Preferences” in the left hand corner of your screen (Mac users), “File > Preferences (Windows users)

2 – Click the “CDJ & Device” Button as you can see in the image attached. Then select the “My Settings” Tab.

3 – In this window you will see all the customisable settings any #DJ would consider adjusting to their preference. Go through these and change accordingly to your DJ style and choice.

4 – Insert your USB stick and you will notice a message to appear which states “ Do you want to update My Settings on the device?” Click YES of course. (See attached image) This will always remain the same unless you make any changes as per steps above and then you will notice the message to appear again should the settings on your Rekordbox be different to the USB or you insert a new USB.

5 – When you arrive at your gig and insert your USB into a compatible CDJ you will see a message to appear on the screen saying “MY SETTINGS DATA was found push the MENU button to LOAD”. (See image attached)

6 – Press the MENU button on the top right of the CDJ and all your settings will automatically be adjusted. Repeat this step for each CDJ. (It will find the My settings data off linked USBs also).
