WRONG ~ DEPP Busts Onto The Scene With His ‘Cataclystic’ EP

Having spent his childhood and teenage years playing almost solely rock music on his guitar, the switch from live instrumentation to electronic based production was as swift as it was intense. Real name Zachary De Silva Starr (which is also maybe one of the sickest names you’ve ever heard), WRONG ~ DEPP is a Sydney based producer busting onto the scene today with the release of his ‘Cataclystic’ EP. As the name might suggest, it’s nuts.

While trap music has in recent memory had a tendency to lean towards breakdowns and drops more on the ‘f**ked’ end of the spectrum rather than remaining melodically interesting, ‘Cataclystic’ is a release that stays fresh and easy to listen to all the way through. Strings on EP opener ‘Feeling Lost’ and classic trap horns peppering ‘Kitten’ demonstrate a real understanding of real instruments alongside the synths and sounds he’s created. Though trap might give the impression to many as a genre of electronic music that’s constantly changing and super intense, WRONG ~ DEPP’s style of trap on this EP is gradual and super easy to crank too. Speaking of ‘Crank’, did I mention there’s an ode to Soulja Boy on this release? ‘Nuff said.

We were lucky enough to get some words from WRONG ~ DEPP ahead of the release of the record – short but sweet:

“This EP is a rendition of my musical surroundings. From growing up with now famous neon artists to finding my taste through Sap trap, I think I’ve developed a blend of happy-sad. At this stage, my music is about capturing a moment and enjoying it without a care and just dancing through the ups and downs.
Enjoy this EP as you need to!”

We will dude, don’t you worry about that. Fingers crossed we get more from WRONG ~ DEPP in the very near future. 5 tracks on ‘Cataclystic’ is leaving us hungry for more.
