Those with their noses in the Sydney trap scene at the moment will surely know the name Badrapper by now.
Coming off the back of a couple of huge releases on Trap Cords, Exotic Thinking Network, and the recent Father compilation, as well as a headline show at World Bar, the Sydney-based trap head is making some serious moves.
Straying from his common heavy strain of trap, Badrapper has teamed up with another local Sydney rising star in Balki to release a soulful, Soulection-esque beat, titled Dash Dash, as a part of the Daruma Direct compilation, Agari Vol. 4.
The effort introduces itself slowly, with a soft piano interlude pinned with some light stabbing synth chords, which brings it into the main wonky, 808-filled beat. From there, the duo take some synth-improv inspiration from Sam Gellaitry, leading into a very calming breakdown, where the piano again makes an appearance. The familiar chords carry the track back into the main beat, where water-drop and bell samples dance atop soft percussion hits to ride the effort to its end.
An outstanding piece from the first-time duo, and a nice change in tack from the Sydney up-and-comer. Keep an eye on both of these producers here: Badrapper, and Balki. You can suss out the track below and let us know what you think yourselves. Check out the rest of the compilation here.
