Aussie City To Axe Alcohol Free Zones

It has been reported that Sydney will be axing a sturdy amount of alcohol free zones in the areas you would last expect.

Sixty-two alcohol free zones will be scrapped in the near future, and – believe it or not – most of the areas are situated in the suburbs of Darlinghurst, Newtown, Surry Hills, Redfern, Waterloo, Alexandria, Erskineville and Rosebury.

That’s right. Darlinghurst, the apex of the Sydney’s nightlife crisis, will soon allow people to piss up on the street.

Naturally, the Liberal Government and the NSW Police aren’t fans of the move, however Labor Councillor Linda Scott is gung-ho for the plan, which is being set up in hopes to prevent homeless people drinking in dark alleyways.

A City Document States “The majority of the objections received related to the view that drinking did not necessarily always lead to anti-social behaviour and that the creation of zones in residential streets and parks is infringing on the ability of citizens to responsibly drink an alcohol beverage in a public place.”

Perhaps Sydney is taking influence from Manhattan’s recent law changes?

This will be interesting.
