xxyyxx – Red

Florida-based beat don xxyyxx is finally back, releasing ‘Red – a post-rnb influenced masterpiece.

Clear influences of Shlohmo and Eric Dingus make themselves known on this track, with heavily distorted 808’s and reverb drowned vocals being the salient characteristics. Wildly syncopated percussion atop pitched down hi-hats drive the flow of the song with a aggressive, yet mellow force. ‘Red’ represents a refined direction for the producer – hopeful signs for xxyyxx fans everywhere.

After gaining such prominence in 2009/10 for his fresh take on electronic music, xxyyxx seemed to drop off the face of earth – sporadically releasing work in progresses and few originals. With ‘Red’ being his best work to date, we can definitely expect big things to come from the wunderkind.
