Mumdance reminds us hardcore is still sick with BBC 1 mix

Since the advent of modern house and saturation of techno stylings – hardcore is a genre we have fallen relatively short on in recent years. Retained in 90s rave nostalgia and dance counter cultures, those upbeat melodies and quick as shit beats sometimes seem relegated to novelty.

We’d have to bite our quick tongues, however, when listening to Mumdance‘s new mix for Monki on BBC 1.

Famously quoted as saying ‘If something confuses the shit out of you on the dance floor – that’s a beautiful thing’ – Mumdance takes sounds from the fringes of genre and makes them the main event. Pulling out elements of hardcore, grime and jungle vibes – Mumdance’s mixing is flawless, even if the beats are delightfully discomforting (thought: it seems he could make any song amazing by transposing the shit out of it and adding a breakbeat – works).

With reps from White Label, Asylum Music, Hectic Records and Knightforce all standing strong – it’s 25 minutes of hardcore bliss.

Unfortunately – we still have no idea how to dance to that shit. You can similarly bop along awkwardly by checking out the mix on BBC 1 right here.
