Getting To Know AIAIAI’s TMA-1 ‘Young Guru’ Studio Headphones

Headphones would have to be one of the trickiest tech components of the music world, everyone has a different set of ears and people like to listen to music their own way.

More often then not a good set of headphones is one that caters to all rather than going too bassy or just the opposite and offer a tinny, unfulfilling range.

Having used the AiAiAi TMA-1 ‘Young Guru’ studio headphones for a few weeks now i’d comfortably say they tick a lot of the boxes for those working from home either casually listening or producing/mixing tracks.

Design

Black and red, much like many sportscars the TMA-1’s are pretty slick and would look the bit nestled alongside some decent HiFi or studio monitors.

They have a nicely curved black padded band and adjustable cans with soft coverings that go easy on the ears versus the tough plastic/vinyl on alternative headphones.

The cable has a black chord for laptop/mobile use and a red chord with a tough covering that’ll withstand being wrapped and generally being bent, pulled or scrunched.

Sound Quality

Having listened to everything from acidy techno to lush low end bass stuff over the past few weeks the TMA-1’s are a perfect bridge to deliver the aural goodness to your ears.

What seemed like too much bass in the beginning is actually a well balanced sound very suitable to all kinds of dance and electronic music.

Very accurate sound!

Technology

The sound has been tweaked by famed sound engineer Young Guru who was nominated for his work on Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind”. He also helped produce works for Methodman, Ghostface Killah and Talib Kweli and toured with Kanye as his DJ for the ‘Watch The Throne’ tour.

This means an understanding of what the artist wants you to hear when listening to a track and he’s done it successfully.

Other neat tricks include a headphone jack so you can swap between lappy or a mixer and a twistable, locking mechanism so the cable can’t be pulled from the left hand side can.

There’s also a volume clicker on the cord but found it to be quite high and hard to find, this doesn’t matter too much as you’ll have most volume options in front of you so if anything it’s tucked away which is nice.

Summary

Overall a well rounded, comfortable set of headphones built for the studio and deliver the goods when it comes to listening to dance and electronic music, wouldn’t recommend them enough!

The AiAiAi TMA-1’s were sent to us to be reviewed and they kicked ass!
