Vinyl Sales Set A New Record In 2014

The hipster and traditionalists are proving loyalty. The Entertainment Retailers Association is excited to parade that vinyl/record sales are doing exceptionally well with a quarter of a year still in store for 2014.

The UK based association proudly displayed that in 2013, a total of 829,243 units were sold (can you imagine all that crackling). 2014 is looking hot to trott with the Official Charts Company data at the beginning of October showing 844,122 already sold. That’s 14,879 more than 2013.

With the rate of sales averaging 281,374 per three months, could this mean we are about to see sales pass… *Pauses… 1 MILLION?

ERA Director General Kim Bayley quoted “This is an extraordinary turnaround. Independent retailers were first to identify the untapped potential for vinyl and made it the focus of Record Store Day. With record labels now making more vinyl available, this trend shows no sign of abating.”

So has dance music played a big role in this? To an extent would be the conservative answer with the top 10 most purchased vinyl’s being mostly classics mixed with Arctic Monkey’s contemporary rock renaissance. Maybe it’s time we all bought one of Pioneer DJ’s new turntables?
