Matt & Kim – Cameras EP (Different Recordings)

Matt & Kim are a guy and a girl from Brooklyn, NYC, who make DIY hip hop stylie indie music. It’s pretty cool, and it’s well worth listening to their recent album, ‘Sidewalks’. This single, ‘Cameras’, comes from that album, but more importantly it’s got some seriously juicy remixers on board. The original track is super catchy and has really grown on me after a few listens. The hip hop influence is pretty strong, but it has solid vocals and has got a real party vibe to it.

The two headline remixes are definitely the best. First up there’s Gucci Vump (a side project from frenchmen The Shoes and Brodinski), who put more of a house feel to the track, with the highlight being the awesome piano riff. It’s almost early 90’s rave in it’s feel, but keeps a lot of the synth sounds that make the original so unique and catchy. Jan Driver follows on, with a slightly less poppy remix. Cool use of the vocals, and a much more grown up take on the track. Both remixes are typically stellar. There are three other remixes that vary in quality, but the Surfing Leons version is worth a listen.
