Planet Mu has just released John Withers and Emmanuel Nzaramba aka John Wizards‘ self-titled LP, just after releasing their ‘Lukasa By Night’ EP in June. The 14-track ‘John Wizards’ full-length is a bounty of glorious sunshine music, ranging from the canny Shangaan dedication, ‘Limpop’, through the sort of melodies which could have appeared on early AFX or µ-Ziq records on ‘Hogsback’ mixed up with beaming boogie like ‘Iyongwe’, beautiful ballads such as ‘Maria’ or ‘Jabu Ley’, mellow funk moments on ‘Leuk’ and the frothy AI-era melodies of ‘Durvs’.

The album blends lush electronica, R&B, dub and boogie-pop with an effervescent electronic touch, which has just hatched one of this summer’s most unexpected charms – a dizzily joyful sound gushing with the sweetest melodies and nudged with an effortless funk. It’s one of those records you HAVE to hear to believe, and even then you’ll be rubbing your ears in disbelief. Big recommendation!
