LEE FOSS & MK FEAT. ANABEL ENGLUND – ELECTRICITY EP

Last month we gave you a heads up about the upcoming collaborative magic between Hot Natured label-head Lee Foss and house/R&B/pop producer and legendary remixologist, Marc “MK” Kinchen. The Electricity EP preview is a delicious tease in lieu of the official release on December 11th from Hot Creations (although maybe sooner - Lee Foss’s Soundcloud says November 19th).

The A-side opens with Anabel Englund’s silky voice gracing the groovy, sensual melody of “Electricity.” The fusion of vocals and synths is utter perfection – check out the whole track to experience the powerful breakdown in full effect.

“Goodnight Moon” continues the deep, eclectic head-nodding soundscape, with a quirky rendition of the children’s story Goodnight Moon through a kiddie’s voice narrating: ”goodnight hustlers, goodnight scammers, goodnight to one and all.”

Foss’ Could Beis another masterful interplay of vocals and melody, blurring the lines between the two. “B5 The Dinks” closes out Electricity’s B-side with a funky bassline, layered in sassy spoken word and audience reaction sound bites.

This project between Foss and MK is particularly intriguing because of the divergent backgrounds each brings to the mix. MK has straddled the house scene and pop/R&B worlds for decades, becoming famous for his stunning productions and remixes of tracks like “Burning,” Nightcrawlers’ “Push The Feeling On [The Dub Of Doom],” and “Just An Illusion.” He even left house music for a chunk of time to work exclusively in pop and R&B as a songwriter and producer for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Will Smith, Ne-Yo and Beyonce.

Gradually MK found his way back to house through (of all people) Pitbull, as well as Laidback Luke and Afrojack. He teamed up with Lee Foss after doing a remix of the Hot Natured anthem, “Forward Motion.

Foss, in contrast, is a “newer” legendary presence and pioneer of underground house and techno. His background implies a mingling of influences, from the house and disco of his hometown Chicago, Detroit techno, and his serendipitous, Ibiza-inspired bond formed with Jamie Jones back in 2001 over electro and deep house, resulting in their groundbreaking Hot Natured imprint and Hot Creations offshoot.
