Leisure Suite share their favourite local tracks

Melbourne’s Leisure Suite have returned with a brand new single, ‘Shut Down’.

This up-and-coming two-piece are slowly but surely becoming one of the most exciting acts in the Australian music scene, after turning heads a string of eclectic releases over the past 12-months that set them apart from any artists in the scene right now.

With such a unique take on modern electronica, we thought we’d catch up with Leisure Suite to see who they look to as the most exciting artists in the current electronic music landscape.

Check out their ten selections below, as well as their brand new track ‘Shut Down’.

GOOD MORNING – STEP ASIDE

If I was stuck on a deserted island and could only bring one artists music with me, I’d be more than happy spending the rest of my days eating coconuts and listening to Good Morning.

BARO – PRETTY

Baro’s EP is definitely a staple in my 2017 playlists it has such an array of sounds. I love this song especially. Baro’s live set is also a must see if you get the chance.

ALTA – FIX IT

Local Melbourne legends, super creative music made by beautiful people. I love the textures and the hook is so so great.

FORTUNES. – HERO MAN

Omg, I love the snare sample in this. Conor’s vocal performances are always so great and the production is unreal.  Those two can do no wrong.

GHOSTING – ONE SUMMER

I love a flip on a classic, but once I heard about Andrei’s take on Miyazaki I was super skeptical. Already such a distinct theme, Andrei has definitely been able to create something really beautiful, without messing too much with the original. The whole mixtape is a nice homage to the nostalgia of Miyazaki films.

TORNADO WALLACE + SUI ZHEN – TODAY

Two of my favourite Melbourne electronic acts together, what more can I say.

MINORFAUNA – SHUTTER ISLAND

Stuttered beat, silky vocals and super clean production. I haven’t caught these guys live yet, that’s definitely on the to-do list.

SHOUSE – WITHOUT YOU

It’s just so catchy and fun. Real nice use of space, everything seems to just fit together so nicely and the vocal melody is great. If this song was a dessert it would be like a glazed donut, or a croissant.

EILISH GILLIGAN – THE FEELING

I’m a sucker for shimmering synths, pitched vocals and beautiful sounds. This song feels very thoughtfully arranged.

BANOFFEE – RIPE

Wow, what can I say about this one. When this was sent to me I listened to it countless times in a row uninterrupted. Theres so so much going on, but it’s arranged in such a cohesive and beautiful way, its super impressive. This has been my favourite favourite local release of 2017 by far.

Stream their new track ‘Shut Down’ below. Speaking on the inspiration behind this single, Leisure Suite’s Bridgette Le says “I was sick of being surrounded by the types of men who treat women as disposable because they think they’re more worthy or hold higher social status.

“I wanted to shut them up or as the song says, shut them down.”
