INTERVIEW: We Pick AutoErotique’s Brain About Touring Australia, Working With Diplo & Upcoming Projects

In case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard, AutoErotique is touring Australia and bringing their signature dirty wubs and fat basslines.

AutoErotique recently released the ‘Kids Don’t Care’ remix EP via Dim Mak, and the Ratchet VIP is seriously huge. Give it a listen:

We caught up with AutoErotique to ask a few questions ahead of the tour. Check it out!:

STONEY ROADS: What’s up AutoErotique! You’ve just announced your Australian club tour, are you excited? What are you looking forward to doing in your down time?

AUTOEROTIQUE: I’m so excited! I can’t wait to hit the Sydney Zoo and hug a koala! Oh oh and hang out with the kangaroos!!

SR: You’re from Toronto, what’s your local EDM scene like?

A: Toronto is awesome – there’s a ton of DJs and producers from here…. Like Zeds Dead, deadmau5, Grandtheft, Shaun Frank, Keys n Krates, Hunter Siegal, REZZ, Torro Torro, MSTRKRFT etc etc. The list just keeps growing.

SR: You collabed with Major Lazer on the huge tune ‘The Sound’, what was it like working together?

A: It was super cool! Diplo is amazing, he’s very inspiring.
I’ll be playing “The Sound” aswell as a big new collab with Diplo called “Waist Time”!!

SR: Speaking of huge tunes… Let’s talk ‘Asphyxiation’. It’s clocked up 3.5 million views on YouTube. Where’d the idea for the music video come from? What did you think of it going viral?

A: Whoa, I haven’t really checked on it in a while – that’s great news! The music video was an idea that we came up with together with the director Amos Leblanc, he’s amazing.
I would have been surprised if it didn’t go viral, I mean the concept was just so.. strong!

SR: You announced on Twitter that you’ve just wrapped up your ‘Darker Things’ EP, what are some of your inspirations behind making this one? What sound can fans expect?

A: It’s very dark, it’s got lots and lots of bass. 🙂
There’s a couple references and Easter eggs to one of our favorite eras of dance music.

SR: Similarly, how would you personally describe your sound?

A: Straight up bass house! But it’s always evolving – usually straying away from what’s right now onto what’s next!

SR: What’s been your most memorable show? Where’s your favourite city to play?

A: That’s hard to say – it might sound like I’m pandering but I’ve always loved Sydney and the Gold Coast.
I remember being at some crazy after party last time I was in Sydney, such a good time.

SR: What track are you most proud of and why?

A: Hmmm I think we find ourselves going back and listening to LZR BASS, AUH, OTF, Ratchet, Waist Time, and this new one Reverse the most.

SR: What have you been listening to lately?

A: A LOT OF RAP MUSIC.

SR: What’s next on the agenda for AutoErotique?

A: Maybe an LP? There are A LOT of great things in the works…
