PREMIERE: Alfons – ‘Jamrock Land’ + discussing the music scene in Stockholm and twerking

Producer Arash Fahmi, better known as Alfons is no stranger to commercial EDM success, with his track ‘Ganjaman’ bringing in over 12 million plays on YouTube, and hitting number one in Sweden.

Today Alfons brings us a brand new track ‘Jamrock Land’. The infectiously catchy and addictive song, with its reggae undertones and appealing vocals, is sure to be another phenomenal hit.

In association with the release, we took the time to ask Alfons a few questions:

STONEY ROADS: Hello there Alfons! You’re sharing your new tune ‘Jamrock Land’ with us today, what are some of the influences behind this one?

ALFONS: The main influence behind this one is probably Bob Marley and all his other 11 children. The influence behind this is the old school reggae, which I still enjoy today. You can for instance play “Redemption Song” anytime on the year, in whatever condition – drunk, hangover, happy, sad.

SR: You’ve been writing books and poetry from a very young age, how do you feel that this has inspired your artistic approach to your music?

A: Good question! I have actually never thought about that… I seriously cannot come up with what that would be.

SR: You’re from Stockholm, what’s the music scene like over there?

A: Stockholm for me is pretty much the capital of commercial house. Or more like Avicii House, which also is one of the reasons I started making music. I think there is proudness in Stockholm, cause of all the success that has come from here on the house market.

SR: Your track ‘Ganjaman’ was a crazy success, how does that feel?

A: I can’t really say anything else than that I am extremely grateful. I never imagined the song becoming so big. It is such a crazy feeling and it hits me every single time when any of my friends ask someone unknown in our company if they have heard “Ganjaman” – 80% of the times the answer is “Yes, of course”. It is like the song got a life for itself. I cannot compare that feeling with anything else really.

SR: Why does Jamaican culture resonate so deeply in your sound?

A: Cause I love that place. At least I am in love with my vision of that place. And I love Bob Marley and his 11 children. I love the whole accepting appearance that the country has over itself.

SR: What’s the creative process behind your infectiously catchy tunes? What do you usually lay out first?

A: I really don’t know… Some people think it is the water we drink here in Sweden that gives us magical music powers. Some people say that is it cause of the rough climate here that keeps us inside all the time. That in order makes us being creative at home instead. I haven’t really decided yet what I think…

SR: Do you combine this positivity and catchiness into your live sets? What vibes can a crowd usually expect?

A: I love EDM. Yes, I said it. EDM. So leave your schoolbooks at home and expect a big RAVE!

SR: I’ve seen a video of a girls dance team twerking to your music, what did you think of that?

A: I cannot say much more else than that I love it. I really love it. I wish I could see all them live.

SR: Outside of music, what other hobbies and interests do you have?

A: This might sound strange but I actually study a little economics alongside with my music production. I think I can call economics one of my hobbies, even if might sound a bit nerdy(?) Other from that I love being with my family and friends.

SR: What have you been listening to lately? What producers do you think we should be keeping an eye out for?

A: I like Vigiland, so I have listened much to their latest single “Pong Dance” – which I recommend. Other from that, I recommend a French man named David Guetta. He will break anytime soon I believe.
Just joking.
The other artist to keep an eye on is definitely “Mr. Fluffy”.

SR: What are you working on currently? What’s next for you, Alfons?

A: I WISH I could tell you!
