Krychek – Ego EP

Often confused with the idea of self pleasure, the Ego is a construction popularized as the hungry, spirit-consuming, haughty side kick of celebrities, mall cops, and guys who drive hummers (but lack the *cough* weaponry).  In reality, Freud’s ‘Ego’ is simply a balance between animal instinct and moral conscience; the angel & devil whispering over your shoulder.  Caught between these warring mentalities, New York’s favorite psychonaut, Krychek, recently emerged from months of silence with an EP so aptly named.

The ‘Ego‘ EP is a three song offering of darkened, indie-funk with a conflicted demeanor.  His first vocal endeavor, Krychek’s tortured wail careens through the collection, tied down with equally stricken guitar licks and distorted basslines.  One of his more well-crafted productions to date, the title song cuts apart the tracklist as a standout ballad, dark and groovy.  Arielle Tayar, joins him for the closing, ‘Sychophant,’ adding her female siren to the haunting April release.  Our minds will always fight with human nature, but it’s best to just sit back, pop those headphones in each ear, and let your angel (or demon) listen in.
