Savant

Genre blending mythical producer Savant has a full album due out this month on Universal. Hiding under a variety of names, Aleksander Vinter grown into the virtuoso identity of Savant. Just off an extensive world tour, the Savant style proves in demand for fans seeking an all around electronic music experience. A self-proclaimed ‘dude that likes to dress up’ productions and live sets show Aleksander in his own musical world. Not worried about tags, trends, or genres Savant is simply pushing out tunes he loves.

In anticipation of the extensive 20 track Orakel release, we chatted to Savant about music, background, and what’s next. See what he had to say.

As many heavy electronic producers your music background includes metal. Being from an area so rich in melodic metal, how did this uniquely influence your current project?

It could have been anything, but if you are talking about where I came from it was inevitable. But it influences my hairstyle more than my music. Never went to concerts, some of my friends where into it. I don’t know why people ask that so much, I grew up on the Internet where I had access to everything I needed to stay fed.

You have released under a few different aliases. What process let you to the widely successful Savant? What is the tie between the name ‘Savior’ and your original sound?

Not sure if you meant Savant here. Savant is just the current manifestation of my music, it has connected with people and I could not be more thankful for that. I have done many styles of music over the years and it will continue to evolve. After Vinter in Hollywood I branched off into several different personas with different styles. After Savant took over I have been absorbing my previous personas into this one to give my fans more and more variety.

Often a solid label bond seems to really help curate a promotion network for budding artists to thrive. How has your relationship SectionZ aiding in building the Savant brand?

You have more control over your brand with a smaller label. When someone takes away any control of your art it just makes it go slower. If I get to do whatever I want to do that is when I feel Savant grows. SectionZ is an art house label so they constantly encourage creativity.

You recently finished a pretty substantial North American tour featuring some top-notch venues. What is it like stepping up to the big stage?

I get to meet my fans at fun venues. But I am really just getting started here. I want it to be way bigger so when I step up I have as much fun as everyone out there but I can’t stop thinking about what is next, what I want to create so that my fans will never forget it.

The mask, the music, and the total Savant image; what is the core behind the brand in just a few words?

I don’t like to think of things that way. I am just a dude who can help but make music who likes to dress up and dance. A lot.

On the grand scope, where do you see dance music going? Especially based on recent events, media seems to be promoting a decrease in the use of dance music used for excessive substance abuse. Do you think these crackdowns and increased awareness will hurt the genre? What is your ideal solution to make sure fans are safe and have an amazing experience?

We have been here before. Our parents did it, their parents did it. It is well documented how much of an influence music has had on drug culture and vice versa so I look to that for my answer. We love to pretend we are unique in this, but don’t all mass entertainment have their version of this?

What is the process in a Savant studio product? What influences you behind the mix board? What are must-haves?

Although I do think of things long term, there is no process. No schedule or rhythm. But that is mostly because I do this ALL DAY LONG. My tools of choice are whatever can run FL Studio and can access my drives. When it comes to making an album I think about what I want the theme to be while I make the music and let it take shape from there. I will do 10 wipes or more for every track that goes on an album.

Next steps for Savant? What would you like to see in the future?

As I mentioned I really want to fill in what I think is missing and take what I did in the first year to the next level, something that was hard to do this year because of all the touring. Next year I will only be doing a few shows around WMC but most of my time will be spent in the studio putting together as much as I can before I head out again. So stay tuned because I feel like I am slaking now.
