Nu:Logic – Everlasting Days / We Live There VIP [Hospital]

Nu:Logic – a.k.a Dan and Matt Gresham – return to the legendary Hospital Records today with two tracks released as a 12″; Everlasting Days featuring the vocals of Lifford and a VIP of We Live There, which was off their What I’ve Always Waited For album in March.

Everlasting Days is a soulful garage inspired tune, harking back to the haclyon days of the 90s with a catchy hook and lush vocals. A ubiquitous summer smasher, it’s truly uplifting, irresistably hands-in-the-air while maintaing a huge sing-a-long factor. Mancunian vocal talent DRS strongly contributes to the VIP mix of We Live There, for the growling, spoken swagger dominates the track. Bringing together warm, rumbling bass with low-slung beats and compelling twisted, techy dnb rhythms, the track takes things on a deeper and darker tip than the original and the general Nu:Logic sound.

Personally, the duo seem to be one of the only producers smashing it on Hospital recently, and this is definitely proof of that. Obviously there are unstoppable staples on the imprint like London Elektricity – whose album I’m patiently waiting for – but in my opinion they’ve released a lot of mediocre tunes lately. I read this on a dnb forum just now and I think it fits quite nicely with my outlook:

“Wouldn’t it be nice if Hospital stopped aiming their music at Radio 1 listeners/deaf people and released more stuff like this. Maybe then they would stop being seen as a joke label who are slowly destroying any legacy.”

Nonetheless I think this EP is definitely a step in the right direction for the label. Nu:Logic killing it!
