Yolanda Be Cool and Gurrumul – A Baru In New York (Radio Edit)

Yolanda Be Cool have created a track with the legendary Gurrumul titled ‘A Baru In New York’.

Gurrumul is a native Australian Aboriginal who sings in the Yolngu language and most noticeably in 2008 was nominated for four ARIA awards, winning the awards for Best World Music Album and Best Independent Release. The story of this song is best described by the Sweat It Out signed duo themselves:

“Initially, this track was our “tribal” house tune for the Album. With big drums, a soaring synth and the unmistakable vox of Gurrumul, we were extremely happy to have a collaboration with Australia’s most successful indigenous artist. However, when the no 1 A’nR in Germany signed it to Universal for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France, and many of our musical peers suggested it as a single, we went back into the studio to add additional production and condense it from a 5 minutes 38 into a radio friendly 3 minutes 25. We enlisted good friend and Aria producer of the year for his work on 360s album Styalz Fuego to help us ensure the magic remained, but the hooks shone, and the end result is a beefed and punchier version of the original which still gives Gurrumul’s amazing voice room to shine.”
