Seth Troxler cooks for the homeless during ADE

Words by Zoe Walker

As you may already be aware, ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), maybe the biggest electronic music event in the world, is on next weekend and we all wish we were going. The festival is one of the biggest of its kind, pulling in around 350,000 people for five days of clubbing and dance music.

On the first day of the festival, beloved techno DJ Seth Troxler will be cooking a lavish three-course lunch for 75 homeless people. Troxler is quite the kitchen wizard, having bagged the winning title for the ADE DJ Cook Off three years in a row. The extensive lunch is taking place thanks to the combined effort of those at 10,000 Hours and The Rainbow Group.

Troxler told 10,000 Hours, “I think people involved in dance music are generally people who are a bit more empathetic. Maybe this comes from dancing or just because of the unity feeling on the dance floor. Because on the dance floor, different people and different cultures open up about their lives and open their minds about how they can be as people.”

The sense of unity that Troxler talks about is something we know all too well. With organisations like 10,000 hours promoting volunteer work amongst the electronic music community, it’s hard to argue that EDM lovers are no more than just party animals. As Troxler says it is “pretty profound” to utilise the strength of the EDM community to rally for social movements.

Some of you may have already tasted Troxler’s fine gastronomical delicacies – he was in town for the last ever Future Music Festival earlier this year, where he had his own food stall, Smokey Tails.

On October 14, Troxler will be cooking a meal for 75 homeless people, along with Dave Clark and Paul Oakenfold.
