Perth’s DeadWeight! to host Dizz1 for Valentines Day EP launch

DIZZ1 PRESS-2

He shared ‘Everyday Grind‘ with Avicii fan-boy Aloe Blacc a couple of weeks ago, showcasing a tougher and completely different side to his vocals than what we’re used to. But come February 17, Melbourne’s beats-man extraordinaire Dizz1 will be sharing his EP on Tru Thoughts – the Brighton-based label home to Zed Bias, Alice Russel and Hot 8 Brass Band among others – and will be launching the release three days beforehand in Perth on Valentines Day.

The 12″ features three vocal cuts – ‘Everyday Grind’ with Aloe Blacc, ‘Real Bad Gyal’ feat. Warrior Queen and ‘We Go Ridin’’ with Om’Mas Keith (on which man-of-the-moment Keith follows up recent production credits for Jay-Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean with a stint in the vocal booth) – and an exclusive vinyl-only jam in the deep instrumental hip-hop of ‘Mystify My Eye’.

He’s been blowing up over the last few years, copping BBC Radio 1 airtime from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs and Benji B, while also playing at Sonar 2010, Meredith Festival, Falls festival and attending the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona. He’s played alongside dubstep kingpins Loefah, The Bug and Benga, and has had recent studio collaborations with Sadat X (Brand Nubian), Mark Pritchard (Harmonic 313), Steve Spacek (Africa Hitech) and Roots Manuva. Dave Norris has also appeared on the second volume of Jay Scarlett and Cinnaman’s ‘Beat Dimensions’ compilation, at a time when the instrumental beat scene gained worldwide attention.

With the EP being a precursor for his debut album set for release on the label later in the year, Perth underground lords DeadWeight! have snatched the opportunity to host the ‘Everyday Grind’ launch party, with support on the night coming from the ever-reliable Zeke, Modo, Joe Macc and Aslan. Being held on Valentines Day (February 14), they’re bringing 1000x as many Giant Hearts for you and your lovers so they taste even better when you’re macking in the smoke on the dancefloor. Check out the event here – if you’re in Perth it’d be a crime to miss this!
