Did Jon Hopkins produce Coldplay’s newest tune ‘Midnight’? Listen now

Coldplay, with zero context attached, have released the first song since their 2011 record ‘Mylo Xyloto’. Titled ‘Midnight’, they’ve accompanied it with a chilly video clip packed with infrared black and white film while also suggesting that Chris Martin has spent a fair amount of time with Bon Iver and/or Imogen Heap. It’s the first hint of a new album since their last, and yesterday they tweeted that “something new” would happen at midnight in the time zone local to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia – seems a lil’ bit shrouded in mystery; hopefully an album announcement! The clip, directed by Mary Wigmore, is trippy, atmospheric and looks like heat-sensitive silhouettes of Coldplay’s members ambling through a forest, and the song ‘Midnight’ itself is absolutely stunning, pushing the boundaries of their alternative-rock signature sound while still maintaining the frontman’s outstanding vocal ability.

Last night, Disclosure shared the tune on their Facebook page saying “Jon Hopkins, you never cease to impress!” Does this mean the British electronic genius – who last year released his ‘Immunity‘ LP – produced the song? Only time will tell I guess, so meanwhile, listen to it below. 10/10.
