An interesting and beautifully presented annual list from Hype Machine has today revealed the 50 ‘Most Blogged’ artists of 2013, presenting which artists dominated the internet this year in a way we can truly understand (with pretty pictures, duh).

Happily we can state that the list was incredibly dance-heavy, easily being the dominating genre and presenting some talent that is undoubtedly boss. Unsurprisingly to all, Disclosure made it to the top spot, with hit track ‘Latch’ ft. Sam Smith making it to the highly coveted most-blogged position. Kudos gentleman. But ain’t no one surprised.

Here are some things which did surprise us, however;

• James Blake (4) beating out Daft Punk (6). Whilst we love our DP boize we can’t help but have a few fist pumps for our favourite multi-talented tear-monging hot-ranga. It’s a lot of hyphens but we think you get the point.

• The ladies held their own in the top 10. Not so much of a surprise as a ‘hell yeah they did!’, the gals took out four of the top spots with Daughter (9), AlunaGeorge (8), London Grammar (7) and CHVRCHES (2) representing.

• Justin Timberlake (he’ll always be JT to me) made it to number 12. We ain’t even mad.

• Call us patriots, but the list was disappointingly Australia-light. We had the boys of Empire of the Sun (34), Cut Copy (28) and our boi Flume (21) being the small offerings picked up by the blogosphere. Whilst they’re both well deserved, with so much insane Aussie talent ricocheting around our shores and beyond, we don’t think that its a very fair shake of the sauce bottle. YOU JUST DON’T GET US WORLD.

• The hip hop/rap world was also under represented. With Kendrick Lamar (47) and Drake (19) the only two out of 50 – with their talents showcasing very different sides of the genres. What gives, yo?

Although the list is one of those strange cultural cues that reminds us that bloggers are overlords of the internet, we know it’s not a completely accurate measure of popularity and certainly not a complete indicator of talents. But hell, the list certainly signals whats totes trending, and we’re interested to see where the coffee shop keyboard slammers will gravitate musically in 2014.
