Flume has given Australian dance music a big push in the last twelve months with his atmospheric popularity expanding from our own shores to the global stage in-part to his rather stunning self-titled release on Future Classic and his equally impressive live shows. More recently on his international travels has come the serious question of the ‘Australian Sound’ and urge to share the new wave of producers grown from all parts of this great continent.

Taking to his Facebook, Flume, real name Harley Streten shared a rather emotional update on just how proud he is of the Australian electronic scene and making note that the world is listening.

“Just wanted to say how proud I am to be a part of Australian Electronic music scene right now, and its not just me.

I’ve been travelling the world for the past 6 months and i’m constantly getting asked in interviews about the “Australian sound” and this new wave of producers.

I never thought much of it, being part of this new wave and all, but after this trip to the USA I’m starting to see it from an outsiders perspective.

Australia, we’ve got something pretty special going on here, we’ve got our own sound, and the worlds starting to take notice”

He added links to a number of Australian producers who are killing it, that included essentially a menagerie of Stoney Roads favourites that we’ve covered over the past six months with Cosmo’s Midnight, Wave Racer, Yahtzel, L D R U all mentioned who featured on our first ever free compilation ‘Stoney Roads Volume One’.

Others names included Adelaide house slayer Motez, Sydney dudes Hayden James and Kilter, Charles Murdoch, glitch-dance duo Willow Beats, club specialist Emoh Instead, Indian Summer and beatsmith Ta-Ku.

It might be worth mentioning we were the first Australian blog to give Flume a write up all the way back in May, 2011 (check it on Hypem), so yeah, we do kinda like the big guy!

Want to catch Flume soon? He’ll be playing Big Day Out 2014 alongside Dillon Francis, Major Lazer, Steve Angello and more.
