Cosmo’s Midnight: Australia, Catching Up In The World of Dance Music

Aussie twins Cosmo and Patrick make up Cosmo’s Midnightthe electronic  pairing who feature on our free compilation Stoney Roads – Volume One alongside Yahtzel, Wave Racer and LDRU. Residing in the creative melting pot that is the inner west of Sydney, Australia, the duo have carved their name through a unique blend of g-funk infused Australian electronica that is breathing life into a rapidly growing scene. After two years of serious production, all the while studying at University, Cosmo and Patrick have honed in on their love for composition through initially wagoning onto their older brothers copy of Ableton when they were just teenagers.

Further questioning reveals three main acts that have influenced their music today; Lindsay Lowend, 813 and Sinjin Hawke all playing a creative role in swaying their sound for future unreleased material they are sitting on, this only adds intrigue to what we can expect to hear in the future while a future collaboration with AlunaGeorge would not go astray (luckily the guys won a chance to play with them at Listen Out).

In conjunction with their track on Stoney Roads: Volume One, we asked the question:

How do you think the diversity of sounds in Australian dance music has played a role in the current soundscape?

“I’m really glad that the Aussie music scene is diverse because so much of the music in Australia is really behind the times. Like you go to America and Europe and pretty much everywhere else and they’ve got these scenes happening. Thankfully Australia is finally beginning to pick up it’s game with dudes like Future Classic, Astral People, I OH YOU, Yes Please Records… the list continues. These label/management agencies are really trying to make credible music a thing in Australia. A couple of years ago no one would’ve guessed that an act like Flume would be one of the most popular artists in Australia and around the world and it’s because these people are laying the foundations that are making it possible for credible acts to cut through all the crap and make their way in to the mainstream.”
