The NSW Government has finally unveiled its $24m live music package that’ll see over 150 venues across the state find financial relief following a year of shutdowns and continued reduced capacity.

Recipients of the funding were announced on the weekend by Jobs, Investment and Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres who said that the cash would “allow them to keep the doors open and get back to work putting on gigs” according to SMH.

Some of the specific venues that received funding include the Burdekin Hotel, Club 77, Home Nightclub, the newly revamped Ivy, Kings Cross Hotel, Lord Gladstone, Marys Underground, The Marlborough Hotel, Oxford Art Factory, The Imperial Hotel, The Lansdowne Hotel, Bridge Hotel and Red Rattler.

More than 40 venues are found in the City of Sydney council area of a total of 85 in Greater Sydney and a further 77 in regional NSW who will receive funds from the $24m relief package. Each venue could apply up to $750,000 in funding to cover operational costs including hiring staff, musicians and support crew.

Managing director of Music NSW Emily Collins said the relief package was a ‘lifeline’ for the sector, adding;

“It’ll help venues recover from the huge financial impacts incurred over the last 12 months, and support them as they continue to operate in an uncertain market and one person per two square metres restrictions.” “Quick-response measures are important in controlling COVID-19 spread in NSW, but it also wreaks havoc on the viability of the live performance industry.”
