Sydney’s central business district is set to be revitalised with the announcement of the ‘YCK Laneways’ grid that’ll see three blocks recognised as a dedicated nightlife hub.

What’s an inner-city laneway hub without an acronym right? YCK refers to the York, Clarence and Kent Streets that find themselves nestled between Wynard and Town Hall in the CBD. Over the years it’s become ground zero for a number of cool small bars including Grandma’s Bar, Papa Gede’s, Stitch Bar and more and why the formal recognition is a big step forward for Sydney’s nightlife.

To commemorate the announcement comes the celebration with ‘YCK Laneways Block Party’ – a near two-month party filled with free, pop-up and ticketed events across a number of bars and public spaces. It’ll include ‘jazz crooners to drag queen quiz-mistresses, burlesque divas to disco DJs, stand-up comics to slam poets’ and more according to Time Out Sydney.

The announcement and huge event follows some positive steps for Sydney’s nightlife with the appointment of a dedicated Night Economy Commissioner, the roll-back of the archaic lockout laws and NSW Governments draft ’24-hour Economy Strategy’.
