Caribou just released his first new song in years

A long awaited return from the man who’s made the iconic tracks to the tune of “Odessa” and “Can’t Do Without You” has finally returned after an extended hiatus from production under the Caribou moniker. It’s his first appearance since last producing music for his other alias Daphni.

Caribou’s news single is titled ‘Home’ and contains a dextrous use of a sample of lost soul gem Gloria Barnes’, that reminds us of his earlier Caribou works and shares a similar tone to i.e. a classic Avalanches tracks.

On the production journey of the track, Caribou came out on Twitter and said:

“True fact: Kieran (Four Tet) is always an invaluable help giving feedback on the music I’m making. With ‘Home’ this extended to ‘Why don’t you try this arrangement?’ [Kieran chops up my version and sends it back at me] That was was the arrangement that was used! Thanks, Kieran!”

On the track itself, real name Dan Snaith quoted:

“I’m always listening to lots of music and sometimes a loop just jumps out at me – it’s too perfect. That’s how it was with Gloria Barnes’ ‘Home’ – I kept returning to it, meaning to do something with it but not knowing what. Sometimes making music feels like a process I’m in charge of … but there other times, when things just present themselves and my job is to follow their lead. It wasn’t until the circumstances of someone close to me mirrored the refrain of the original song that the track all came together.”

We are excited to have Caribou back!
