Check out Burning Man’s new 100-foot disco ball

Burning Man is known for it’s awe-inspiring structures, and the annual festival is getting a brand new addition in 2018 in the way of a giant disco ball.

This 100-foot, 30-ton mirrored orb is the brainchild of Danish architects Bjarke Ingels and Jakob Lange, who – along with their team – created the ball at 1:500,000 of the earth’s surface. Have a look at the beast below:

Speaking on their vision for this structure, the leaders of the build team say “The ORB is a mirror for earth lovers – reflecting the passing daytime, evolving life and other art works beneath it – a new planet to sci-fi fans, a wayfinder for travelers or just a huge disco ball to those who love a good party!

“Visible from most of The Playa, it will help Burners navigate the desert and find way. At night, the ORB will blend entirely into its surroundings and become part of the desert. The ORB is a tribute to mother earth and human expression – designed to easily inflate and deflate, leaving no trace on the Playa.”

Check out the overview video below for a better understanding of this titanic disco ball and if you’re planning on heading along this year, be sure to scope it out!
