Spotify is testing a new ‘auto-mixing’ function for playlists

Looks like the future of house party DJing could be changing, with Spotify rolling out tests on a new ‘auto-mixing’ feature that will seamlessly blend tracks together in a DJ style. Wow.

The news came via Music Ally, who reported on the function when it first appeared on the Spotify playlist ‘Drum & Bass Fix’, when the final seconds of a track started to effortlessly mix into the start of the next, similar to that of a real DJ set.

The function is still in its early stages, and will be undergoing roll-out tests for the tome being with Spotify keeping any further news to themselves for now. Speaking on the function, Spotify spokesman said they “are always testing new products and experiences, but have no further news to share at this time.”

Could this mean your local DJ might lose some gigs in the future? Maybe. But will these auto-mixing playlists make it into the club setting? Honestly? Not just yet. However it is an exciting development from Spotify who seem to be constantly trying to automate the listening experience.

What do you make of of ‘auto-mixing’?
