Popular nightspot Hugs & Kisses will be closing up shop this month, with the venue set to go up for auction.

Located on level 2 of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) headquarters in the CBD, the club has been a go-to dance hub since for years, home to events from a wide range of Melbourne based party collectives.

Speaking with Broadsheet yesterday, club operator Hugo Atkins said “I wish we could keep going but I think we were lucky it went that long as well. A lot of police hadn’t dealt with a full club license before, which could cause some problems for us. Obviously we overcame those adversities but it was always a hot little ticket.”

On top of this, Atkins reveals they had just purchased the Function-One sound system that once resided at The Mercat – another popular venue that was closed down last year. The timing could not be worse in that sense.

Atkins went on the explain they are on the hunt for a new home, however doing so is a far from an easy feat. He says “Finding a liquor license in the CBD that goes past one is going to be really difficult. The only way to do it is to buy an existing permit which comes with a price tag,”

Hugs & Kisses are yet to reveal their plans for a final soiree at the location, but confirmed via Facebook that they “will let you know exactly when we can all pay your last respects.” For now, keep an eye on their socials for updates.
