Listen to Max Cooper’s impressive mix for Aussie imprint Balance Music

Don’t be surprised, but local Aussie brand Balance Music seems to back to their old ways of constantly turning out quality mixes through their flagship Balance Series.

At the end of last year technical wizard James Zabiela made his return to the mix CD compilation market with Balance Series 029, one of the most underrated releases of 2017. Across two CD’s (or two digital files of course) the Englishman reminded us again of why he is held in such high regard.

Of course, some of the other names preceding Zabiela were heavy hitters like Henry Saiz, Hernan Cattaneo, Patrice Baumel, Alex Niggeman, Magda… all turning in mixes which would sit very comfortably in any music collection. Balance Music have really turned it up a notch with the recent announcement that Irish man Max Cooper will be next in line to take control of Balance Series 30, a mini-milestone of sorts for the brand.

Cooper is known for his cerebral take on electronic music which feeds the soul as much as it feeds the dancefloor. Broken beats, techno, electronica, ambient… you name the genre, it is all part of the producer’s repertoire of studio tricks.

No doubt his singular and interesting take on music all feeds out of his formal training as a scientific geneticist, especially his interest in the physiology computing subject of feed-forward loops which really manifests itself in his music. The many fan-made videos of his productions also take inspiration form this (check video above, his fanbase is quite rabid).

To top it all of, this will be the first ever official mix compilation that Cooper has taken on. As expected, the tracklist for upcoming Balance is vintage Max Cooper, featuring around 50 tracks from artists like Nils Frahm and Com Truise sitting cosily next to Alix Perez and even the Thom Yorke-led Atoms for Peace. Check out the preview below and schedule the release date of the 3rd of May into your dairy. This is looking set to be one of the year’s best releases.

Balance Series 030 mixed by Max Cooper will be released the 3rd of May through Balance Music.
