Danny Barwick has today shared his debut solo EP, ‘Distance’ exclusively with us ahead of tomorrow’s release.
The Melbourne based producer has been quietly working away on a solo project for sometime now, a 4-track project that sees him delve deeply into his experimental taste for electronica.
Speaking on the project, Danny describes a good portion of the motivation came from working on other people’s music for so long and wanting to build something under his own name. “At the time, I was deeply moved by the rawness and honesty of poets like Sylvia Plath and Charles Bukowski. So, it felt natural to begin with poetry.”
“As I wrote, I soon noticed that each piece revolved around a particular person that I had been feeling distant from – the poems were my way of bridging a gap, giving expression to a feeling of social isolation. I had also become obsessed with sampling all sorts of sounds – old creaky pianos, scraped glass, teacups, and dusty old percussion toys. This EP was born by spending several months combining these elements. Throughout the process, I tried my hardest to be as raw and unpretentious, as the poets that inspired me originally.”
