Tommy Genesis is back with an absolute firecracker of a track: ‘Tommy’.
Produced by Charlie Heat, the tune features hyped alarm synths and drum busting percussion, the track stays powerful and aggressive and also somewhat vulnerable, allowing it to be suited to a party vibe.
Among the track Genesis refuses to be pushed around, as she stays braggadocios: “You paid the bill like you want me/You fly me out like you found me … I don’t need you, nah” likely citing how she stays underground and does her own thing.
“Tommy is a song I wrote about one half of my split personality,” says Genesis. “It’s become the way I represent myself in most social situations. It’s just a rap song, but it’s also a pure representation of Tommy without Genesis (you’ll meet her later).”
Her vocals are casual and indifferent, somehow allowing herself to be even more intimidating than the production. The screaming towards the end of the track lets it loose over noisy feedback, unable to hold it in any longer, Genesis spurts out, almost channeling an aspect of postmodern punk, keeping her edgy.
