Sydney’s eastern suburbs to cop roadside tests for cocaine

Nose beer lovers, beware! Sydney drivers are soon copping roadside tests specifically targeting cocaine users.

This rather specific mission to catch coke heads behind the wheel was touched on my Police minister Troy Grant when speaking to the Daily Telegraph, who says the current DrugWipe testing does not pick up traces of coke.

He said “When roadside testing of oral fluids was introduced in 2006, suitable equipment for detecting cocaine was not available… Technology has advanced considerably since that time and the testing of oral fluid for cocaine is now feasible.”

Interestingly enough, Sydney”s eastern suburbs are going to be the trial zone when they begin testing later in the year. Go figure?

If this kind of thing rubs you the wrong way, you can get behind Greens MP David Shoeridge’s petition to stop roadside testing altogether.
