Pete Tong Helped Make An 808 Inspired Whisky For Some Reason

The drink nobody asked for is here, a scotch whisky inspired by none other than the Roland TR-808.

This obscure merger of sound and liquid is the brain child of Tommy Danver, who – along with Pete Tong on the advisory board as a major investor – launched a crowd funding campaign in order to raise £300,000 ($520k +) to build the business.

So lets get down to the nitty gritty. The supposed link between 808s and whisky is explained on the crowd funding page as follows: “all the heritage, depth, and soul of a classic Scotch but shaped for the 21st century and, like its drum machine namesake, with the catalyst to spark a revolution.”

Taste wise, they describe the 808 whisky as “whisky remixed”. Yeah… That’s what we’re dealing with.

“Like the best dance music it has warmth, bottom end and a definite KICK, the sub-bass of drinks. 808 is whisky but not as you know it. It’s whisky remixed!”.

Speaking on the whisky, Pete Tong says that “Being a DJ for 30 years, it’s mad that no whisky has stepped up, the way vodka has done so successfully”.

“You’re getting a younger audience that would never see themselves as whisky drinkers, drinking 808, and with universal praise and appeal, I think there’s huge potential.”

The 808 whisky is already available in clubs such as Ministry of Sound and Fabric, with the company aiming to tackle the younger demographic with this venture. Campaign wise, it has already raised over £145,000. If you want to support the movement, click here and peep the teaser video below.
